Smart Home and High-Tech Features Home buyers are increasingly seeking homes equipped with high-tech features such as solar panels, electric vehicle chargers, and other eco-friendly amenities. Whole-home batteries have seen a 62% increase in mentions since last year, marking the fastest-growing feature in Zillow’s analysis. Cozy Vibes The comfort and coziness of homes are becoming a priority for homebuyers in 2025. There is a growing preference for smaller rooms and less open space, with a focus on smaller dens and homey living room floor plans. Listings mentioning ‘cozy’ have increased by 35% compared to last year. Old-World Comeback Nostalgia and vintage aesthetics are making a comeback, appearing in 14% more listings than in 2023. ‘Vintage’ mentions are up by 9%, and bibliophilic decor and home libraries are showing up 22% more frequently in listings on Zillow. The Victorian era scullery, a small room or second kitchen for meal prep and clean-up, is also gaining popularity. Climate Resiliency Climate resiliency is a growing concern, with homes designed to withstand severe weather conditions like flooding and hurricanes. The share of for-sale listings mentioning flood barriers is up 22%, seismic retrofitting is up 20%, and water catchment systems are up 19%. Drought-resistant turf yards are showing up 14% more often compared to a year ago. Spa-Inspired Wet Rooms Wet rooms, bathrooms that are completely waterproof with an open floor plan, are becoming increasingly popular. This design eliminates the separation between the shower and the rest of the room, giving the bathroom an elegant and modern look.
